Just an hour from Shinjuku station lies a world of cedar forests, ancient shrines, mountain streams, and panoramic ridgelines that most Tokyo visitors never discover. Tokyo Nature Hikes has been guiding international travelers through these landscapes since 2015.
Our small-group tours are led exclusively by certified, English-speaking guides who are passionate about sharing Japan’s natural heritage with the world.
Our Promise
Small groups.
Big experiences.
Zero crowds.
We cap every tour at 8 participants — not because regulations require it, but because we believe the mountains deserve to be experienced quietly. No rushing. No megaphones. Just the sound of wind through cedar trees, the crunch of gravel underfoot, and a guide who knows every hidden viewpoint worth the climb. This is hiking the way it was meant to be.

Our Guides
Local knowledge
you can't find
in any guidebook.
Every trail has two stories: the one on the map, and the one only a local knows. Our guides grew up exploring these mountains long before it was a profession. They know which corner of the ridge catches the best light at 7 AM, which shrine has been welcoming pilgrims for 800 years, and exactly when the autumn maples peak in each valley. That knowledge is what makes the difference between a hike and a memory.

What Hikers Say
★★★★★
Kenji is an extraordinary guide. He spotted a wild boar track, explained the history of every shrine we passed, and somehow got us to the summit just as the clouds parted. Pure magic.

I was nervous as a solo female traveler but the small group felt like instant friends. The trail lunch was delicious and the photos they sent were frame-worthy. Highly recommend!

We did the Okutama Ridge trek on day 3 of our Japan trip. Best decision of the entire holiday. The onsen after was the perfect ending. Already planning our return.
